Laurin Gierse studied biology at the University of Greifswald and is a trained microbiologist with a focus on the characterization of microbial communities. His PhD focused on the impact of respiratory pathogens on the functional composition of the gastrointestinal microbiome. Laurin joined the Helmholtz Institute for One Health (HIOH) in March 2022. Initially a scientific/administrative coordinator, he took up the position of a collaborative coordinator in the One Health Surveillance research group in mid-2023. In his main role, Laurin is a central point of contact for project partners and acts as an interface between administration and science. He also supports HIOH’s Head of Administration in matters regarding financial management and is responsible for the organization of strategic procurement.
