Laying the Foundation for the Future: HIOH to Build Its Own Research Facility

A home for the health of humans, animals, and the environment: The groundbreaking ceremony on September 11, 2025, marks the start of construction on our new institute building – a major milestone for HIOH and One Health research in Greifswald

A NEW HOME FOR EXCELLENT ONE HEALTH RESEARCH

Since 2021, the Helmholtz Institute for One Health (HIOH) in Greifswald has been researching the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health — with the goal of identifying and preventing global health threats such as zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance at an early stage. As a site of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), the HIOH works closely with the University of Greifswald, the University Medical Center Greifswald, and the Friedrich Loeffler Institute.

To support the institute’s interdisciplinary research under optimal conditions, a state-of-the-art laboratory and office building is being constructed on the university campus at Berthold-Beitz-Platz. The groundbreaking ceremony marks the official start of this milestone project. We look forward to celebrating this special moment together with our invited guests.
