The University of Greifswald

Founded in 1456, the University of Greifswald is one of the oldest universities in Germany and the Baltic Sea region. With strong historical ties to Northern Europe, it remains closely connected to international academic networks and today maintains cooperations with more than 200 universities worldwide. Students and scholars from over 100 countries contribute to its international character.

As a research-oriented university with five faculties, including University Medicine, Greifswald is known for its interdisciplinary collaboration and strong research infrastructure. Its research mission focuses on addressing challenges of a changing environment and society. The University is embedded in a vibrant local research landscape and cooperates closely with renowned external institutes, including the Helmholtz Institute for One Health (HIOH). High-quality, research-led teaching in small groups and a strong regional engagement further define its profile.
